“Dynami Charas” program
In 2024, we demonstrated practically&nbsp;that a significant priority of our social action involves children and adolescents. Therefore, in collaboration with the&nbsp;100% Greek company MEGA, we designed and undertook a significant initiative,&nbsp;titled “Dynami Charas”.&nbsp;Our goal is to responsibly and sensitively implement a comprehensive program covering psychological support services, occupational therapy, and speech therapy for the girls of the "Stegi Agias Annas" Foundation on an annual basis. Specifically, within the framework of the “Dynami Charas”&nbsp;program, we cover the cost of learning support for girls with learning (and other) difficulties through the prognosis and restoration of speech, language, communication, learning, organization, and execution disorders, handwriting, reading, play, and social skills. Simultaneously, through the program, we cover the annual cost of psychological support for the Foundation's girls (aged 4-18), aiming to contribute as much as possible to their smooth psychosomatic development. The program is exclusively hosted at Thanopoulos supermarkets, and the first phase has already been completed (7/12/2023 - 10/01/2024). The transitional accommodation structure "Christian Shelter for Girls Agia Anna" was founded in 1972. It is a non-profit child protection foundation and a secondary social care service provider. To date, it has provided accommodation to more than 500 girls.

We systematically collect products for vulnerable groups, placing baskets with special indicators in our stores. Additionally, we participate in additional actions of the organization, such as supporting earthquake victims in Turkey in 2023 and Crete in 2021, as well as supporting children whose families struggle to afford school supplies (back-to-school action).&nbsp;

We are the first supermarket in Attica to sell the Wish Star in our stores (both physical and online). Pocket Park Creation in Kifisia
What are pocket parks? They are small green spaces created in undeveloped areas within city neighborhoods.
And why are they important? Because they significantly contribute to the enhancement of the urban landscape where they are created and improve the quality of life for residents.
This is what we envisioned for Kifisia: for the residents of the area to enjoy as much greenery as possible, just a breath away from their homes.
Thus, at prominent points on Trikoupi and Levidou streets, we, together with the "Organization Earth" and P&amp;G (as part of the "Creating Pocket Parks - Making Our Cities More Sustainable" program), created the first pocket park in Kifisia: an environmentally sustainable park perfectly tailored to the characteristics of the area, covering an area of 460 sq.m.
Our creation features more than 580 plants harmonizing with the natural environment of the area, bicycle ramps, autonomous photovoltaic systems, a fountain, benches, etc., and manages to be a real "green" oasis of oxygen, freshness, peace, and relaxation for the area's residents.

Pocket Park Creation in Kifisia

Assistance to Flood-Affected Areas in Thessaly
On September 22th and 24th , 2023, we supported the humanitarian aid convoy to our fellow citizens affected by floods in Thessaly in cooperation with the Elite Special Task Force (EPOMEA), providing essential items such as paper products, gloves, and cleaners. At the same time, we collaborated with Dixons-Kotsovolos, providing complete cleaning sets to 180 families to safely return to their homes.
Relief for Areas Affected by Fires
In August 2021, we actively provided assistance to the affected area of Varybobi, through the Red Cross, &nbsp;and supported the firefighters by providing products. Additionally, we participated in the initiative by VIANEX for the reconstruction and reforestation of the area. Similarly, we stood in complete solidarity and humanity with fire-affected families in Pallini and Penteli, sending first aid products.
As part of Corporate Social Responsibility, other significant solidarity actions (product donations, fundraising) of D. Thanopoulos S.A. include collaboration with:

THANOPOULOS &amp; MEGA Continue “Power of Joy” Program for Another Year
 The 100% Greek companies MEGA and D. THANOPOULOS stand responsibly by children in need, launching a new social initiative titled “Dynamis Haras” (Power of Joy). Following the 2024 annual coverage, the program continues into 2025, offering extended annual support for psychological services and therapy sessions (speech therapy and occupational therapy) for the girls of the Agia Anna Christian Shelter Foundation.
“Power of Joy” program continues to focus on the evaluation, prognosis, and restoration of disorders related to Speech, Language, Communication, Learning, Organization and Execution of daily activities, as well as Movement, Writing, Reading, Play and Social Skills of the girls in need. Additionally, recognizing the importance of their psychosocial health, the program will cover for a second consecutive year the annual cost of psychotherapy sessions for the girls in need, thus contributing to their smooth psychosomatic development.
This initiative is part of MEGA's overall Corporate Social Responsibility program "Acts of Care" for Society.&nbsp; &nbsp; The program is hosted exclusively at THANOPOULOS supermarkets, with the first phase already completed in 2024 and set to continue throughout 2025. About the Organization The Agia Anna Christian Shelter for Girls, founded in 1972, has been operating for more than 50 years. Still located in Nea Kifisia-Attica, at 24 Anoixeos Street, it was founded from the vision of two women to offer support to children in need, within a safe, family-like environment. As a child protection foundation, it is a non-profit provider of secondary social care services and operates on a non-profit basis. It serves as a transitional housing facility for girls and, to date, has offered support to over 500 girls aged 4 to 18.&nbsp; Beyond shelter, it provides accommodation, medical treatment, education, and psychological support. Its operation is supported by an unpaid five-member commitee, an eight-member paid staff and numerous volunteers who generously contribute to the ongoing work of the facility at every stage.

Από τις 17 Μαρτίου η ΕΛΛΑ-ΔΙΚΑ ΜΑΣ έχει νέα, δυναμική εμφάνιση στο κατάστημα της Δ.Θανόπουλος Α.Ε. στη Νέα Κηφισιά με κεντρικό μήνυμα της ενέργειας «Το ‘ψαξες;». H «γέννηση» της κοινής αυτής δράσης προέκυψε με στόχο την περαιτέρω αναγνωρισιμότητα του Σήματος ΕΛΛΑ-ΔΙΚΑ ΜΑΣ αλλά και την προτροπή προς τους καταναλωτές της αλυσίδας να το αναζητήσουν στις συσκευασίες των προϊόντων που ανήκουν στα Μέλη της Πρωτοβουλίας κατά τη διάρκεια των αγορών τους. Located on Aiginis Street, the new park in Nea Erythraia is a modern, accessible and welcoming space that fosters social interaction and strengthens the connection with the natural environment. The landscape design was based on the selection of resilient Mediterranean plants well adapted to the area's microclimate, with low irrigation needs,thereby enhancing the park’s biodiversity and sustainability throughout the year.
 More specifically, 15 new trees were planted to provide shaded areas for visitors’ comfort as well as points of interest with seasonal flowers and attractive foliage colors. Additionally, 60 medium and large -sized shrubs and approximately 350 perennial flowers and aromatic plants were added, bringing color and fragrance to the park. The planting was further enriched with 20 grasses that create movement in the landscape depending on the wind and light. Finally, the use of lawn was limited to smaller areas to conserve water resources.
 The redevelopment also includes the upgrade of pathways using stone pavements and the creation of a new central permeable walkway made of compacted soil, accessible to people with disabilities.
Additionally, a new recreational area has been created featuring 3 picnic tables with a ground cover made of colorful mosaic tiles, along with 18 new wooden benches embedded into the existing stone walls. The park has been enhanced with 8 new metal waste bins, a drinking fountain and a 12-space bicycle rack. To improve safety, 10 new LED light poles have been installed and 4 existing ones have been upgraded. Finally, several additional tasks were performed to improve the park, such as the restoration of pavements, painting works and graffiti removal, the upgrading of electrical installations, the reinstallation of an automatic irrigation system as well as the paving of a path at the back of the park and the installation of protective bollards for access control.
 The area has been transformed into a unique destination for recreation, relaxation and creative coexistence for visitors of all ages, thus contributing to an improved quality of life and fostering greater environmental awareness.

Collaboration with «Oloi mazi mporoume»
We systematically collect products for vulnerable groups by placing specially marked donation baskets in our stores. Additionally, we actively participate in other initiatives of the organization, including: - Support for the earthquake victims of 2021 in Crete - Support for the earthquake victims in Turkey, in 2023 and additional support to Crete - Assistance for children whose families cannot afford school supplies through the“Back 2 School” initiative -&nbsp; Volunteer activities under the organization’s auspices, such as reforestation projects &nbsp;in Penteli
Collaboration with “Make-A-Wish”
At D. Thanopoulos S.A., we proudly support the mission of Make-A-Wish by offering a curated selection of their products, with all proceeds directed toward fulfilling the wishes of children facing critical illnesses. We are honored to be the first supermarket in Attica to introduce the iconic “Wish Star” in our stores. Through both our physical locations and online platform, customers can discover a variety of seasonal Make-A-Wish items — including summer accessories, traditional “Martakia” bracelets, Easter-themed products, and more — making it easy to contribute to a meaningful cause while shopping.
 Volunteering: Participation in Local Initiatives
 At Thanopoulos, we have created a dedicated group engaging in various volunteering activities and community events, the #ThanopoulosTeam. Employees, often joined by their family members, actively participate in 5km and 10km running races, reforestation projects in the surrounding areas and more. In 2024 and 2025, we proudly took part in the PepsiCo Gives Back races, supporting the work of Make-A-Wish Greece as well as local charitable organizations within the Municipality of Kifisia such as the Agia Anna Foundation, with whom we maintain ongoing collaboration—spreading smiles and contributing once again to a meaningful cause of social contribution. Additionally, our volunteers participated in reforestation projects in Penteli, organized under the auspices of “OLOI MAZI MPOROUME” initiative, helping to restore the areas affected by recent environmental disasters.

We are in Athens, between 1870-1889. The industry begins to develop, and amid the overall economic prosperity, more and more businesses related to food, start to emerge. At the same time, a new class of consumers is born and established here, in the capital of Greece. The demand for quality products is constantly increasing.

Existing businesses struggle to meet the new demands of consumers. Market conditions in Athens are challenging. In 1877, commercial enterprises are still housed in the stalls of the old Market. It was even said that from the unpleasant smell and poor sanitary conditions, you could tell you were near a grocery store or a butcher’s shop.

Panagiotis Thanopoulos's first steps: a breath of change

A hard-working and ambitious young man from the village of Magouliana in Arcadia will come to change the facts. In 1866, at the age of 14, Panagiotis Thanopoulos was in Athens, working in the grocery store of Christos Karalis, somewhere on Akademias Street. The young apprentice learns everything about the operation of the business and works diligently with great dedication. He soon becomes a partner of Christos Karalis.&nbsp;&nbsp;
In 1877 the 25-year-old merchant decides to open his own shop in a good district of the centre "somewhere in Varvakeios, on Aeolou Street".&nbsp;
This daring venture was destined to be accompanied by significant innovations in customer behaviour, product promotion, hygiene and the aesthetics of the premises and its employees. With extroversion and insight, P. Thanopoulos escapes the constraints of domestic reality and sets high standards: modern commercial enterprises of Europe become a model for the development of his business.

During those years in Athens, the differences between social classes were reflected in consumption habits. In the lower classes the phenomenon of self-consumption is observed, meaning people primarily consume products they produce themselves. As we move upwards, we encounter consumers seeking high-quality everyday items or even more refined products, such as delicacies from Eastern or high European cuisine.
Thanopoulos' shop aims and succeeds in meeting every need. With an enormous variety for the era (more than 1,000 items on its shelves), it stands out compared to its competitive stores and offers exquisite, luxurious products, as well as consistently high-quality everyday items for all budgets.

In July 1902 a massive fire destroys an entire city block in the commercial centre of Athens. Along with it, Thanopoulos' grocery store is destroyed, but it would be rebuilt, shaping a new architectural perception of commercial space with modern elements in structure and mode of operation. In other words... the devastating fire not only did not close down Thanopoulos' business, but became an opportunity for renewal, evolution, and modernization.
In the post-fire era, the business continued with small, invigorating "revolutions" in the industry. Thanopoulos was the one to dare to hire women for the first time in retail sales in Greece, at a time when women's work was still considered unusual. Additionally, he introduced the absolute innovation of "delivery" with modern cars when home delivery was still done with carts and donkeys.

Second generation of insight &amp; innovation&nbsp;

1902

The ambitious and visionary Panagiotis is succeeded by his son (1923), Pantelis Thanopoulos, who continues the innovations, maintains the extroverted profile, and also aims to reach the standards of similar businesses abroad. With this purpose, he closely followed the developments in this specific market in various other countries, collaborates with the Romanoff brothers for the production and trade of confectionery products and divides the store into sections (fish shop, butcher's shop, etc.).&nbsp;This is how the first diversified delicatessen in Athens will be created, while in 1931 we already find Thanopoulos' store at the corner of 98 Aeolou Street and Stadiou Street, in Hauhtea.&nbsp;
During the years of the Occupation, the store operates under the supervision initially of the Italians and later of the Germans.
