Thanopoulos Super Markets is launching a new shopping experience for individuals on the autism spectrum, following months of research and planning in collaboration with specialized organization The Happy Act.

This initiative introduces a comprehensive sensory accessibility program that meets the latest industry standards and protocols to support and include neurodivergent individuals in everyday activities. The program is currently being implemented at the Thanopoulos store in Kifisia, 6 Dragoumi St., next to the ISAP station.

Aiming to support and enhance the shopping experience of customers on the spectrum, the program helps individuals prepare for their visit with the provision of social stories. Once in the store, a sensory accessibility map navigates visitors to the most accomodating areas within the location. Additionally, store lighting and music levels are adjusted daily between 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., creating an environment that caters to specific sensory needs. Special emphasis has been placed on staff training, ensuring a comfortable and stress-free experience for neurodivergent visitors.
