New Park in Nea Erythraia Inaugurated with the Sponsorship of D. THANOPOULOS S.A

The inauguration of the new Aegina Park in Nea Erythraia took place succesfully on Wednesday, June 18th. The park was fully renovated with the generous sponsorship of D. THANOPOULOS S.A. This project is part of the strategic urban renewal plan implemented by the Municipality of Kifisia, under the leadership of Mayor Vasilis Xipolitas, aiming to create a greener and more sustainable city.
This new “green gem” joins the 16 new and renovated parks and squares across the Municipality of Kifisia – Nea Erythraia – Ekali, enhancing the urban environment both aesthetically and functionally and significantly improving the quality of life for residents.
In his welcome speech, Mayor Vasilis Xipolitas described Aegina Park as a “pilot project” for future public-private partnerships: “Aegina Park is a prime example of how Local Authority can mobilize social and business actors for the city’s benefit. It is a European-standard project that shows the way forward for urban sustainability in practice.”
Mr Xipolitas warmly thanked the Thanopoulos family for their valuable contribution and their long-standing support of social initiatives, such as the Municipal Social Grocery Store, and their ongoing assistance to vulnerable citizens. He also expressed his gratitude to the Environmental & Green Spaces Service, the Technical Crews, Lighting, and Cleaning Departments.
Mr. Telis Thanopoulos, President of D. THANOPOULOS S.A., in the presence of his parents Mr. Dimitris and Mrs. Neni Thanopoulos, CEO Mr. Periklis Thanopoulos, Commercial Director Mrs. Kaiti Kontou, COO Mr. Kostas Karakaxidis, IT Director Mr. Nikos Maleas, Marketing & Communications Director Mr. Dimitris Chatzigiannis, and company staff, expressed his admiration for the park’s transformation, praising the care, professionalism and dedication involved, giving to the result top marks.
Referring to his close collaboration with the Municipality, Mr. Telis Thanopoulos especially thanked Mayor Mr. Xipolitas for giving D. THANOPOULOS S.A. the opportunity to contribute to this new “green gem” as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility.
The President also expressed confidence that the city’s “greening” efforts will continue at the same pace, as the company stands by the Municipality with supporting initiatives for a better quality of life and a sustainable environmental future.
The event began with the traditional blessing ceremony by Father Athanasios, parish priest of the Church of the Annunciation in Nea Erythraia. Mr. Giorgos Kasnaferis, Advisor for Greenery & Environment, thanked municipal employees for their hard work in reviving the park, stating that “when there is will and passion, everything is possible.”
Ms. Loukia Kefalogianni, Deputy Regional Governor of Northern Attica, congratulated Mayor Xipolitas on his “greening challenge” stating that «with persistence and consistency, he is transforming every corner of Kifisia, Nea Erythraia, and Ekali.»
Regional Councilor and former Mayor of Kifisia, Mr. Nikos Chiotakis, expressed his satisfaction for the new green space in the city but emphasized that “the Municipality alone cannot maintain the park—citizens and the neighborhood must also care for and protect it.”
Former Mayor, Mr. Giorgos Thomakos, described the park’s revival as a major moment for corporate society and stressed the importance of personal responsibility in preserving its beauty and enjoyment for all.
Landscape Agronomist-Archaeologist, Ms. Elina Katsika, referred to the park’s landscaping study and the many improvements and plantings carried out by the Kifisia municipal services to upgrade this green space, enhancing social interaction and human connection with nature.
The evening concluded with attendees enjoying refreshments and treats generously offered by D. THANOPOULOS S.A. while sharing their impressions of the revived park.
The event was also honored by the presence of the President of the Municipal Council Ms. Lila Papadimitriou, Deputy Mayors, Council Advisors & Members, General Secretary Mr. Giorgos Kokkolis, municipal employees, representatives of local Cultural and Sports Associations, and citizens of all ages.
